i am so proud of you.

the nominations for the oscars came out. here's the list for short animated film:

La Maison en Petits Cubes - Kunio Kato
Lavatory - A Love Story - Konstantin Bronzit
Oktapodi - A Gobelins, L’école de l’image Production
Presto - Pixar, Doug Sweetland
This Way Up - Alan Smith and Adam Foulkes

kinda disappointed "I Am So Proud of You" by Don Hertzfeldt isn't in the bunch, but such is life. surprised Bill Plympton's Hot Dog didn't make it either, but i suppose since its part of a "series," its time to honor some other shorts. here's the only student film among them, Oktapodi:

its got some great animation -- and its very smooth, but like I remarked before...I would've liked to see some more challenging animation story-wise recognized by Academy. maybe one day...

  1. Why is Waltz for Bashir nominated for Best Foreign Film but not Best Animated Feature? It makes no sense especially considering there are only three contenders for Best Animated Feature.

  2. Yeah, I think there's a lot to speculate about there. Probably most of all, the fact that it won the Globes Best Foreign Film nod. It has a better chance in this category than it does the animation category -- would you want to be facing Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks?

There's not a lot of sense behind it other than the Academy doesn't like to nominate things multiple times.

On an unrelated note, no "The Wrestler" nomination for song or "Gran Torino" nominations at all...

  3. Yeah, I was pretty sad about no Hertzfeldt and no Plympton! :( And don't even get me started on no Clint nom. And I'm not talking about Eastwood
